Ukrainian delegation travels to Oman to return Ariana vessel's Ukrainian sailors

KYIV, Jan. 5, 2010 (Ukrainian News/UBO) -- A Ukrainian delegation headed by the Presidential Secretariat's deputy head Andriy Honcharuk and the Foreign Intelligence Service's head Mykola Malomuzh left
for Oman for returning 24 Ukrainian crewmembers of the freed Ariana ship, presidential press service reported. "Freeing and returning home the Ukrainian sailors captured by Somali pirates has became possible due to the purpose-oriented and systematic work of governmental agencies and foreign partners," the press service said. According to Honcharuk, combating piracy at sea has been among one of the priorities of President Victor Yushchenko and the relevant government agencies. Yushchenko personally supervised the efforts of the Ukrainian Special Forces during the operations resulting the release of the sailors and their return home. As reported earlier, Malomuzh has said that the Ukrainian crewmembers of the freed Ariana vessel could return home by Jan. 6.
