Seven architectural monuments in Sambir, Ukraine, will be equipped with decorative and energy efficient lighting systems. This initiative is implemented as part of the EU-financed Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP) programme.

The initiative involves the installation of 450 LED lamps to ensure energy efficient street lighting in the city. To date, more than a quarter of the street lights in Sambir have already been modernised and half of lamps replaced with energy efficient LED ones. As a result of this project, it is expected that the town will be able to ensure better quality and energy efficient lighting for its citizens and save on maintenance costs.

The Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP) programme is a European Union initiative in the EaP countries. It supports small towns that have signed up to the initiative with grants as well as technical assistance, so that they can implement energy efficiency projects identified within their Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). The CoM-DeP support team currently provides grants to 19 selected projects, as well as technical, procedural and communication assistance.
