Russian Lieutenant-General Killed in ISIS shelling in Syria

UBO: The death of a Russian lieutenant general – working close enough to the front lines to be killed by ISIS mortar shelling -  suggests that the Russian “advisors” may now be taking a much broader command and control function and the possibility that the number of Russian troops actually involved in Syrian combat may be greater than officially acknowledged.

Russia's Lt. Gen. Valery Asapov, who helped Syrian forces during the operation to lift the blockade of Deir ez-Zor, died as a result of Daesh shelling, the Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday.

Asapov died after sustaining a "fatal injury" in the "sudden Daesh mortar shelling," the ministry said.

"Lt. Gen. Valery Asapov died in the Syrian Arab Republic as a result of the Daesh shelling," the statement said.

The ministry specified that Asapov was a member of the group of Russian military advisers providing Syrian commanders with assistance during the operation aimed at the liberation of the city of Deir ez-Zor.

The available evidence suggests that Asapov was among those generals close to and favored by President Vladimir Putin, raising even more questions as to the occurrence.

Russia now trying to blame Asapov death on the United States

The death of Russia’s Lieutenant General Valery Asapov in Syria is a direct result of the US two-faced policy in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Monday. “The tragedy that we witnessed, the death of a Russian commander, is the price paid in blood for this double-dealing in the US’ policy [in the war on terror],” Ryabkov said according to the Russian state-run news agency TASS.
