Churches present Strategy for Treatment and Prevention of HIV-Infection

The purpose of this Strategy is to unite and strengthen the efforts of Churches and religious organizations of Ukraine in implementing a nationwide response to the HIV / AIDS epidemic to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.

On June 8, 2017, a regular meeting of the National Council on TB and HIV / AIDS was held in Kyiv, according to the UOC-KP website.

 

During the meeting, a wide range of issues was discussed. Among them the implementation of the National Targeted Social Program for HIV / AIDS in Ukraine, effective models for the detection and access of HIV patients to ART, the implementation of the National Target Social Program for TB Control in 2012-2016, and the state of the preparation of the National Targeted Social Program to combating tuberculosis in 2017-2021, elimination of legal barriers to counteracting the HIV epidemic in Ukraine, etc.

 

The event was attended by the head of the network “Eleos-Ukraine” Archpriest Serhyi Dmytriev of the UOC-KP. He reported on the results of the cooperation of religious communities with organizations that implement the Global Fund grant in Ukraine. The priest described the round tables "Increasing the awareness and capacity of religious organizations in the regions to ensure their active participation in regional HIV / AIDS epidemic programs in Ukraine", which Eleos-Ukraine organizes with the support of UNAIDS in various Ukrainian cities.

 

Father Serhiy also presented the Strategy of Churches and Religious Organizations of Ukraine in achieving universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support for 2016-2018 for the implementation of the National Targeted Social Program on HIV / AIDS Response for 2014-2018 under the Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine.

 

The purpose of this Strategy is to unite and strengthen the efforts of Churches and religious organizations of Ukraine in implementing a nationwide response to the HIV / AIDS epidemic to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. The provisions of the Strategy of the Churches and Religious Organizations of Ukraine will be used in the development of the National Strategy for the next period.

 

Following the meeting, in particular, it was decided to set up a Working Group for elimination of legal barriers, overcoming of discrimination and stigmatization in the area of response to the spread of HIV / TB Epidemics in Ukraine.
