Nearly 4,000 people take part in Saskatoon Marathon

Thousands went for a Sunday morning run in Saskatoon, with some going a bit farther and a lot faster than others.

 

Teresa Fekensa of Ethiopia and Toronto won the men's marathon (42.2 km) in a time of 2:43:50, and Erin Gardiner of Saskatoon won the women's marathon division for the fifth time, with a time of 3:01:42.

 

Ruslan Kramariuk of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, won the men's half-marathon (21.1 km) in 1:08:30, a personal best, and the winner of the women's division was Danielle Thiel from Edmonton with a time of 1:23:53.

 

A total of 3,998 people participated in Saskatchewan Marathon events at Diefenbaker Park, which included the full marathon, half-marathon, 10 km race and 5 km race.

 

Nearly 1,350 of them were school-aged children completing the Marafun. After running about four kilometres a week for the past 10 weeks at their schools, they ran the final 2.2 km to complete a marathon.
