A former hammer world record holder is among four more Russian athletes to have been disqualified from London 2012 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today.

Gulfiya Khanafeyeva, a silver medallist at the 2006 European Championships, is implicated in a doping case for the third time in her career.

Fellow hammer thrower Maria Bespalova and triple jumper Viktoria Valyukevich have also been retrospectively disqualified.

Weightlifter Khadzhimurat Akkaev is the final athlete sanctioned, from the men's under-105 kilograms event in the British capital.

The two-time Olympic silver medallist has still been sanctioned even though he withdrew from the event anyway with a back injury.

All four failed for banned anabolic steroid turinabol.

The IOC has been re-testing samples from Beijing 2008 and London 2012 using up-to-date technology.

New techniques provided by former Moscow Laboratory director Grigory Rodchenkov, who has since defected to the United States, can detect steroids in the body for far longer.
