Prosecutor General Shokin and SBU head Hrytsak deliver a report directly to the President that firearms used by police snipers to kill Maidan activists have been found and positively identified through forensic investigative methods.

KYIV, Feb 5, 2016 - President Petro Poroshenko was given an in-person report by the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine on the newly revealed important circumstances in the investigation of crimes against Maidan activists, i.e. the weaponry by which Maidan activists were killed has finally been found and positively identified.

SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak reported that fragments of 23 firearms used against Maidan had been found. The weapons were mechanically damaged and ID numbers had been filed off. Based on detailed forensic examination, the SBU identified 12 out of 23 weapons.

"With a high degree of probability we can say that these are fragments of 22 Kalashnikov rifles, one Kalashnikov machine gun and one 12-gauge smooth bore barrel," Hrytsak informed told the President. Respective data was submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of the Interior.

The President emphasized that all those guilty of the execution of Maidan activists must be brought to justice, inter alia, those who gave the criminal orders. This information "increases the evidence base substantially and helps bring to justice not only those who killed Ukrainian Heroes, but also those who ordered the murder and provided the weaponry".

The President will demand the Parliament to make amendments to the law on trial in absentia at the coming parliamentary session.
