From the beginning of the MH17 affair, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been one of the leaders making the most forceful statements about the downing and openly accusing Russia of obstruction. He has assigned Australia’s top air force officer to travel to Ukraine to oversee repatriation of the Australian dead as soon as possible

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has warned of a potential cover-up in the investigation of the downed Malaysian Airlines' MH17, lashing the "evidence tampering on an industrial scale".

Mr Abbott also left open the possibility of Australian forces joining a possible future multinational force to secure the crash site of Malaysian Airlines MH17.

The warning comes as a train carrying the bodies of 280 of the 298 people who died on the flight, including 37 Australians, has begun to travel from rebel head territory to the Ukrainian government-held Kharkiv.
