Canada funds a professional cross-fit gym for Patrol Police of Ukraine

The gym is part of a $6.5* million grant under Canada’s Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOP)

 


KYIV, Feb 3, 2018 (UBO) – Members of Ukraine’s National Police converged on the capital city on Thursday, Feb 1 to become acquainted with the new cross training gymnasium provided by the Canadian people.

 

Funding for the gym was provided as part of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), administered by “Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd.” The three-year project being implemented in Ukraine is funded by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (GAC) in the amount of 6.5 million Canadian dollars under its Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOP) authorized.

 

Project funding in the amount of $45,000 allowed equipping the gym and training five police officers as a cross-fit instructors. There are 3 men and 2 women among the five instructors.

 

Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Waschuk, Chief of Ukraine National Police Serhiy Kniaziev and Chief of Ukraine Patrol Police Evgeniy Zhukov attended the official opening ceremony and the first fitness championship tournament.

 

Providing of the cross-fit gym equipment is an effort to support police officers’ fitness and wellbeing, to enhance systematic physical training programs, and allow equal access and training opportunities for men and women. All the equipment, which has been adapted for use by women as well as men, was made in Ukraine. The gym meets all international standards and will also serve as an arena for professional competitions.

 

On the opening day the first cross-fit championship saw competition among eight teams of Patrol Police officers from different cities of Ukraine.

 

PTAP provides support in the development and implementation of specialized training courses for patrol police commanders; bike patrol officers and instructors; and press officers as they strengthen community policing mechanisms. Other project goals include establishment of the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement, creation of the Academy of Patrol Police, development of a distance learning platform and overall capacity building of the NPU.
