A gunman opened fire from a hotel overlooking a country music concert in Las Vegas on Sunday night, killing more at least 58 people and wounding more than 500 others in the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. The suspect, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, killed himself before police breached his hotel room. Yahoo News is providing live updates of the investigation as well as reactions from the U.S. and around the world.



What we know so far:

 

• A gunman opened fire from his hotel room overlooking a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

 

• At least 58 people were killed and more than 500 others injured, making it the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

 

• Among the dead is an off-duty Las Vegas police officer. Two on-duty officers were injured.

 

• The suspect, 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock of Mesquite, Nev., killed himself before police breached his hotel room.

 

• More than 10 rifles were found in the room, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.

 

• More than 20,000 people were attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert, officials said.

 

• Jason Aldean was performing when shots rang out at approximately 10:08 p.m. local time Sunday night
