On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis appointed a Franciscan, Father Edward Kava as Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, giving him the titular see in Kelibia. The nominee Bishop Edward was born on April 17, 1978 in Mostyska, Lviv region. In 1996, he joined the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He studied at the Higher Theological Seminary of “Mary, Queen of Apostles” in St. Petersburg, and was ordained as a presbyter on June 1, 2003. He performed his pastoral ministry in Boryspil, Kyiv region, Kremenchug, Poltava region, in Matskivtsy in Khmelnytsky and Lviv - in the sanctuary of St. Anthony of Padua. Since 2008, he has chaired the Delegature of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Ukraine.
