Pope Francis appoints Auxiliary Bishop for Lviv RCC Archdiocese

The nominee Bishop Edward is a native of the region, having been born in Mostyska, Lviv region


On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis appointed a Franciscan, Father Edward Kava as Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, giving him the titular see in Kelibia.

 

The nominee Bishop Edward was born on April 17, 1978 in Mostyska, Lviv region. In 1996, he joined the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He studied at the Higher Theological Seminary of “Mary, Queen of Apostles” in St. Petersburg, and was ordained as a presbyter on June 1, 2003.

 

He performed his pastoral ministry in Boryspil, Kyiv region, Kremenchug, Poltava region, in Matskivtsy in Khmelnytsky and Lviv - in the sanctuary of St. Anthony of Padua. Since 2008, he has chaired the Delegature of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Ukraine.

 

Lviv Archdiocese of the Latin Rite, which embraces Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi region, is led by Archbishop-Metropolitan Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, assisted by Bishop Leon Maly, Vatican Radio reports.
