If you’re a regular follower of UBO, you know what to expect, i.e. a very wide range of articles that relate directly or at least potentially to Ukraine. Now we’ve decided to add something we’ll call Fun Features, articles that are not necessarily related to Ukraine but perhaps you might find fun to read. “National public TV and Radio Company of Ukraine” sees the situation with insufficient financing of the company as a method to manually control the broadcaster on the eve of the election campaign.


Volunteers are helping to care for the estimated 900 stray dogs that live in the site’s exclusion zone in Chernobyl, Ukraine.


Detecting a Lviv apartment house on fire, soldiers with the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s 1st Bn., 279th Inf. Regt., 45th IBCT rushed into action, helping warn residents and assisting them to safety until local firefighters arrived.


Samantha Dubinsky, the Birmingham Jewish Federation's Director of Community Impact, is in Ukraine for a few days. She is part of a group of Jewish Federation professionals and volunteer leaders who are spending several days in Ukraine and then traveling to Israel. Trip members are learning about needs facing Ukraine's Jews and what programs funded by Jewish Federations are doing to help. In addition, the group is learning strategies for fundraising.


The group is staying in Kyiv in western Ukraine. Samantha is pictured here meeting with an elderly Jewish woman who receives benefits from the Federation-funded JDC.  Below is Samantha's report from her first full day on the trip.
